History

Ösp Sports Club was founded in 1980. The founders were parents and teachers of then, the only special needs school; Öskjuhlíða skóli. From the beginning the goal has been to offer athletic practices in various sports where each individual can approach the task where their strength and weaknesses are taken in to account. Ösp implements live skill practices as well as overall health and enjoyment of participating in a sport. Ösp emphasizes on a safe and healthy environment were their athletes are surrounded with friends and coaches that believe in them.

Iceland has had Figure Skating competitors in Special Olympics World Winter Games since 2005. Helga Olsen has been the SO head coach since we started the program and now she is leading a team of six fantastic coaches at Ösp Sports Club where 20 skaters practice figure skating in singles and pairs.
